Students complete a JMU application,
develop a concise autobiography addressing educational and professional
background, design an individualized program of study, containing a General
Education component and a 30 hour (minimum) concentration, select an advisor in
the concentration area.

Required for students who do not have technology

Students
will learn computer fundamentals, create and edit documents, learn to use the
campus e-mail and network systems, create classroom presentations and develop a
web page.

This
course will cover the student’s introduction to the campus; its services,
resources and facilities, assist with academic planning, and help students
develop realistic career and personal goals.
BIS 250---Service Learning
1-6 credits, repeatable
Individualized Study majors may
prepare a portfolio-learning component in Service Learning. The documented service learning will be assessed by the
Center for Service Learning and credit awarded as appropriate.
Prerequisite:
Request for service learning must be made though the portfolio process.
Student must fill out appropriate paper work and return to the ADP office at
least 2 weeks before the student registers.

Approval of BIS advisor and BIS
director.

BIS 450---Cooperative Learning

Two
or more upper level Individualized Study majors may elect to do a cooperative
study in a selected interdisciplinary area related to their individualized
program, under the supervision of a faculty advisor or faculty member in the
appropriate department/school.
Prerequisite:
Approval of BIS advisor and BIS
director.
Student

BIS 498---Senior Project

BIS 499---Honors Senior Project
(BIS 498 or 499 is required) 3 to 6 credits
Capstone
Honors project within the area of concentration completed over 2 semesters.
Completed when student has 90 credit hours (senior level).
For 499, student
applies with Honors Program (Hillcrest House (540) 568-6310) and if accepted,
follows Honors Program guidelines to select Honors Committee (normally includes
advisor), designs and completes independent study. Prerequisite:
Approval of BIS advisor and BIS
director.
