Syllabus for BIS 200C

I. Course Title: Portfolio Development

III. Description of Students: Undergraduate

This course is designed for Adult Degree Program (BIS) students. BIS students are non-traditional adult students who are returning to college after a lapse of at least 3 full years in their formal education.

IV. Description of Course:

The purpose of this course is to help Individualized Study students determine the feasibility of developing a portfolio of experiential college level learning to earn academic credit. Students enrolled in the class will examine their lifetime experiences, develop and outline for a portfolio, accumulate documentation of learning, determine the amount of credit to request and write a narrative description of their college level experiences. BIS 200C is a required course for all Individualized Study majors who will request experiential learning credit.

V. Performance Objectives:

PO-1 Given instruction on identifying college level knowledge and competence, complete work sheets, number 1 and number 2.
PO-2 Given classroom discussion and reading assignments, demonstrate knowledge of earning college credit for what you know by completing a written test with 89% accuracy.
PO-3 Given instruction on the development of a portfolio, construct a portfolio which includes the following components: cover page, table of contents, signature page, autobiography, credit statement, narrative, executive summary, competencies achieved and documentation. Portfolio must be typed and organized in a loose leaf three ring binder.

VII. Course Requirements:

It is expected that students will attend and actively participate in all group meetings.

IX. Grade Scale:

A grade: 910-1000 points
B grade: 810-909 points
C grade: 710-809 points
I grade: less than 709 points
F grade: failure to remove an I within one semester
