Prospective Students' Weekend

Invitation to Prospective Students' Weekend

On behalf of Students for Minority Outreach, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to James Madison University and extend an invitation for you to join us for our 2012 Prospective Students’ Weekend (PSW) which will be held April 12-14th. This weekend will include various activities that will allow you to explore JMU’s campus while experiencing what it is to be a Duke. It is designed to give admitted multicultural students greater insight into a phenomenal future and higher educational experience on the campus of James Madison University. Be sure to register online before Tuesday, April 3rd to be a part of this event.

Students for Minority Outreach (SMO) is a student run organization and our primary goal is to recruit and retain students like you! Our Executive Board and General Body members have been working tirelessly to ensure an academically informative but also exciting and entertaining weekend. We sincerely want you to fully understand not only what JMU is about but what it is like being a college student. We understand how stressful it may be making a final decision on which college to attend, especially as you prepare for major milestones such as Prom and Graduation. We were all in your shoes at one point and want to make your transition a little easier as you take the next step in your life. PSW allows students like you to see firsthand what a college student’s life is like. You’ll get answers to questions that you may not find on our website. This is your chance to get a personal feel for JMU to help make the best decision for you. It’s also an excellent opportunity to build relationships before you even decide to be a Duke! As a member of SMO for 3 years, I’ve seen some of the greatest relationships built right in front of my eyes during PSW and watched these students get involved at JMU. I am confident and proud to say that this weekend does help with the transitional period. I truly believe in the impact of this program which is why I am so dedicated to all the efforts of SMO and humbled to be a part of such an amazing movement.

We are really excited about this year’s program and cannot wait to meet you! James Madison University is an outstanding school that combines an extensive academic curriculum and supportive faculty and staff to prepare its student population for a successful life during and after college. We are overjoyed to be among your choices of colleges to attend. There’s a lot in store and you have absolutely nothing to lose so go register today!

While you’re registering, feel free to look at some of the other events we have planned on campus. An itinerary is included in this packet as well as online. Contact Tiffany V. Gary via e-mail (garytv@jmu.edu) or (540) 568-6017 if you have any questions about Prospective Students’ Weekend. April 12th cannot come soon enough for us and we would be honored to have you here. Once again, congratulations on your acceptance and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Tatiana Torruella
