Admissions Requirements

The transfer admission process at JMU is competitive. To be eligible to apply for transfer admission, a student must have completed or be in the process of completing at least 24 credit hours post-high school graduation. Those with two years of completed college credits are given priority consideration in the admission process. Due to the competitive nature of our admissions process, JMU offers admission to a very small number of students who only have one year of college coursework at their previous institution.  The evaluation of the high school transcript still plays a large role in our review process for applicants with less than two years of college coursework.  In most cases, students will need to have more than one year of college coursework before transferring to JMU.

JMU is seeking applicants who have completed at least one college-level course in the four core academic areas of English, mathematics, laboratory science and social science, with As and Bs. Math is extremely important in the transfer admission process. Math courses that would likely transfer to JMU must include a level that is considered beyond college algebra and have one or more elements of geometry, computing, number theory, logic, probability, statistics, or calculus.

To apply, we must receive the following by the application deadline to consider your application:

  1. Application and application fee
  2. All College Transcripts (This includes a college transcript for any dual enrollment classes taken during high school.)
  3. Final High School Transcript or copy of GED certificate (not required if you have received a Bachelor’s degree)
  4. SAT/ACT scores if you have not completed 30 credit hours in college or are over the age of 24 at the time of your application.
