JMU employees are eligible to enroll for classes, on a part-time basis, as a benefit of employment. Please review Policy 1402, Faculty & Staff On-Campus Waiver of Tuition Program as well as the Application for Waiver of Tuition. Colleen Moynihan in Human Resources can answer questions about the Waiver of Tuition form. Colleen is located in the University Services Building or by telephone at 568-6165.
The Office of Admissions requires an application and $40 application fee for all degree-seeking employees. Feel free to stop by the Office of Admissions in Sonner Hall for an application for admission. There are three types of undergraduate degree-seeking applicants. Please review the descriptions below and follow the deadlines outlined:
Freshman Applicant
An employee who is a high school graduate and has not attended a post-secondary institution. Application Deadline of January 15th to begin Fall semester.
Transfer Applicant
An employee who has taken college-level course work after receiving a high school diploma or GED. Application Deadlines: January 15th to begin Summer semester; and March 1st to begin Fall semester.
Adult Degree Program Applicant
An employee wishing to pursue a bachelor's degree according to individualized needs, goals and time schedules through the Adult Degree Program. Application Deadline is one week prior to the first day of classes. Learn more about the Adult Degree Program.
Admission Decisions
The Office of Admissions and Adult Degree Program process employee applications following the same guidelines and requirements as non-employee applications. Employment at JMU does not guarantee admission as a student. Joe Manning can answer questions about the freshmen and transfer process. He can be reached in Sonner Hall or by telephone at 568-3476. Pamela Brown can assist with the Adult Degree Program and can be reached at 568-6824.
Once admitted to the university, your offer of admission will include the Tuition Deposit Invoice. The University Business Office staff and Office of Admissions staff will need verification of employment and the Request for Waiver of Tuition Form in order to waive your tuition deposit. Please contact John Gula in University Business Office on the Third Floor of Warren Hall or by telephone at 568-6436.
