As of virtue of working in different higher education institutions, I have experienced different campuses, and individuals. From the moment I stepped on JMU's campus, I have found the campus and its constituents to be friendly and warm (despite the few cold days in the winter time). This student-focus culture is definitely one of the reasons why I wanted to be a part of the JMU community. Prove me right or prove me wrong. I want to hear from you. As Paul Watzlawick expressed it so eloquently: "The belief that one's own view of reality is the only reality is the most dangerous of all delusions." My responsibilities consist of working with students to provide them a safe place, advocate on their behalf, and organize events and programs to celebrate their cultures and heritages meanwhile educating the larger campus and community about diversity issues. One of my interests and passion lie in the intersection of domestic and international issues of diversity. Perhaps this one of your passions too, or maybe you are more interested in business... no matter what, JMU will give you the opportunity to further pursue your goals and become one of tomorrow's leaders. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or just to say hello. e-mail: lavenitp@jmu.edu Thomas Lavenir
