Why I chose to attend JMU: The education and opportunities offered to students are incredibly strong. I wanted to attend a university that balanced classroom learning in a variety of subjects with learning through diverse life experiences.

What JMU means to me: Opportunity, progress and global concern. JMU has a vast array of opportunities for all types of personal interests. I appreciated the opportunities to have a positive effect on the local and national communities through volunteer work in Harrisonburg and multiple Hurricane Katrina relief trips. I was also introduced to the Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch, a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses, through friends I made at JMU. Working as a camp counselor at Double H for three summers changed my life and I would not have made it there if I hadn’t chosen JMU and met the incredible friends I have.

Advice to students selecting a college: Talk to students and do lots of research. Find out what questions to ask to get the answers you personally are looking for to make your decision.
Please see the Office of Admissions Travel Schedule to see if a JMU representative will be near you.

Class at JMU: Biological Anthropology and a GenEd Humanities course in Hinduism, Gandhi and Nonviolence

JMU Memory: Too many to pick one! Studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain was by far the best semester of my college career. We learned the language, culture and geography in the classroom and then traveled around the country to see what we learned.
