Are we coming to visit you?

Why I chose to attend JMU: At a college fair I attended my junior year of high school, the JMU Admissions Counselor talked adamantly about the strong academics, the friendly student body, and great dining facilities the university had to offer. He highly recommended I make a visit to campus to get a taste of what JMU was all about. Taking the Admissions Counselor’s advice, my father and I made the trip down to Harrisonburg, Virginia, and I knew the moment I stepped foot on campus that JMU was where I wanted to spend my college career. Everything from the beautiful campus and welcoming atmosphere, to the rigorous academic climate got me hooked! A few years removed from graduation, I can confidently say attending JMU was one of the best decisions I have made in my life!

Advice to students selecting a college: Take some time to evaluate what type of school you may be interested in. Are you looking to go to a small private school or large public school? Do you want to attend a school far away from home or close to home? What major would you be interested in studying? After going through this process, create a list of campuses that you want to visit and then visit them! Talk to students and teachers, eat at the dining facilities, or attend a sporting event. Try to get a real sense of the university and if you could picture yourself attending the school.

Favorites About JMU:

  • Place: The quad! There’s no place I would rather be on a gorgeous day!
  • Dining Facility: Market One! Sbarro, Burger Studio, The Great Panini, and Montague’s Deli, snacks, and bakery items! The place has everything you could want in a dining facility!
  • Memories: Sunrises at Reddish Knob, afternoons on Wilson steps, hiking at Crab Tree Falls, D-Hall dinners, football games, TDU lounging, being a FROG, SafeRides Team Leader, and MYMOM Leadership Counselor!
