Academic suspension and Summer Session Attendance

If you are placed on academic suspension at the end of the 2012 spring semester.....

  • you may - unless otherwise specified - enroll in 2012 summer session classes by completing normal registration procedures.
  • You must attend a workshop held by the Office of Academic Student Services on Tuesday, May 22 in Grafton-Stovall Theatre at 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.  By not attending this workshop, suspended undergraduates will be dropped from (or not permitted to register for) classes in the second four-week and six-week summer sessions.
  • If your GPA reaches Academic Probation or Good Standing during the Summer Session, you do not need to submit a letter of appeal in order to return to JMU for the fall semester.
  • The spring suspension will remain on the transcript and count toward the three suspension limit even if you are able to bring your GPA up to Academic Probation or Good Standing during the summer session.
  • You should not take summer session classes at another college (grades do not transfer - only credits do).

If you are an academic suspension student who wishes to enroll in the 2012 summer session after being away from JMU for LESS than two years.....

  • You must submit and Intent to Enroll form to the Office of Academic Student Services no later than April 1, 2012.
  • Please keep in mind that re-entry is not guaranteed, but is contingent upon review by an academic review committee.
