Information Technology Task Force

1. Clarify the charge to the task force.
The task force reviewed the charge presented to the task force by Dr. Douglas Brown, the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The task force discussed the scope of the charge and engaged in a broad discussion of Information Technology as it related to academic programs at James Madison University. Among the areas covered during this discussion included: what is IT today and tomorrow; campus-wide impacts of IT; advantages and disadvantages of IT; and examples of current IT related programs at James Madison University.

2. Outline beginning strategies & tactics for addressing the task.
The task force discussed the manner in which the task force would complete their work. We agreed to focus on three major areas:

a. Complete an inventory of current academic programs at James Madison University that incorporate a significant Information Technology component.

b. Complete an analysis of James Madison University's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as they related to Information Technology. This analysis will include both academic programs and infrastructure.

c. Make recommendations about future academic programs which have an Information Technology focus.
