Health and Human Services Task Force
Minutes
March 15, 2000
Vida Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. in Moody Lounge.
The members present were Herb Amato, Jean Dalton, Janet Gloeckner, Bill Walker,
Cory Cleland, Craig Abrahamson, Cheryl Beverly, Judy Holt, Jeffrey Kushner,
and Lennie Echterling. One student was present as a participant observer.
Update
Vida updated the group on the process that will take place for the different
task forces. The next step will be to put a draft of the report on line by the
middle of April. All JMU faculty members will then have the opportunity to review
the document and offer comments.
At 10:00 a.m. on May 3, each task force will offer the final draft of the report and a 30-minute presentation to the Academic Council.
Report Draft
The group discussed the first draft that Vida had prepared and had emailed to
members. The consensus was to edit the draft to offer the essential findings
and recommendations in a brief and concise fashion. Appendices could provide
the details and background conceptualization. The group decided that such a
format would offer greater power and clarity. Finally, the group suggested that
the recommendations be reduced to 4 or 5 major ones.
The report would be based on the following outline:
A. Introduction
1. The Charge
2. The Process
3. Summary of Findings
B. Contextual Analysis
1. Trends
2. SWOT
3. Existing Programs
C. Recommendations
1. Administrative Unit
2. Mechanisms
3. Outreach and Partnerships
4. Shared Projects
D. Appenidces
Vida will develop a second draft by next Tuesday morning.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Health and Human Services Task Force will be Wednesday,
March 22, at 4:30 p.m. in Moody Lounge.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lennie Echterling
