The minor is a part of the School of Theatre and Dance, a program within the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The JMU dance minor allows students to explore and develop their skills and knowledge in the field of dance while pursuing a major in another subject. The minor combines theoretical coursework along with practical dance training to enable students to begin a journey toward becoming well-rounded artists. Dance minors can select from a diverse menu of options, including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, dance technology, and somatic studies, complemented by required courses in dance history and improvisation.

The requirement for a minor in dance is 21 credit hours.
