Comprehensive APR's must follow the guidelines in the Internal Self-Study Report. APR Guidelines may be modified for units in the Division of Academic Affairs that support academic programs but do not offer degree programs. A comprehensive review seeks assessment and/or evaluative information about the entire program or unit. Comprehensive APR's are scheduled to occur at least once every six years. The intent of a comprehensive review is the examination of programmatic issues as outlined in the Internal Self-Study Report.
Reviews by accrediting agencies may be substituted for comprehensive reviews if they are outcome-based, demonstrate substantial JMU faculty involvement, and include on-campus visits from the accrediting agency. Substitution of an accreditation review requires the submission of Section II-E in the APR Guidelines. Substituting an accreditation review for a comprehensive review may require the program to invite additional external reviewers to examine areas not addressed by the accrediting review. A request for submitting a review from an accrediting agency must be approved in advance by the Dean of the college in which the program resides and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.
