Focus on: Environment

Description:

Joshua Tree National Park is home to a peculiar and beautiful desert ecosystem. Its namesake, the Joshua tree, is feeling the effects of climate change, and notably beginning to disappear. In fact, US Fish and Wildlife Service have petitioned to list Joshua trees under the Endangered Species Act. On this break. we will join forces with environmentalists in the park, and help establish a long-term network of monitoring plots to evaluate growth, decline, and health of Joshua trees. Other tree species at higher elevations that were hit hard by the recent drought in California will also be assessed. Additionally, we will help rangers with projects such as invasive plant removal and trail restoration.
We have a lot of work to do. Come and get sweaty!
