The WISE Search for Megamasers
Dr. Anca Constantin, Department of Physics and Astronomy at JMU in collaboration with James Braatz, Department of Astronomy at UVA
This study will use new data on host galaxies from the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) to help guide the surveys for new megamaser disks. These provide the most precise masses available for black holes, and in some cases they can be used to measure geometric distances to host galaxies. This study will lead to new constraints of the true prevalence of accretion disks in galactic nuclei.
