Kapitza Conductance of aluminum oxide/gallium nitride Interfaces
Dr.Costel Constantin, Department of Physics and Astronomy, at JMU in collaboration with Dr. Patrick Hopkins, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UVA.
This is a collaborative research proposal that will develop and increase the research capacity for both Dr. Constantin's and Dr. Hopkins' research groups. JMU students involved in this project will be exposed to a variety of instrumentation and fabrication techniques (E-beam evaporation, ALD, AFM, SEM/EDS, VASE, Hall effect and resistivity vs. temperature measurements), and interface conductance characterization performed at UVA with a state-of-the-art laser system, built for time domain thermo-reflectance measurements. This collaboration will enhance JMU's ability to motivate students to pursue advanced degrees in physics and engineering. In addition, this grant will constitute seed money for external funding at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other available funding agencies.
